Our Hedeby Viking Sword is a replica of a 9th century original found in a burial mound at Hedeby in Denmark, an outpost at the frontier of the Carolingian empire. The ornate hilt alludes to the fact it belonged to one of the Danish warrior elite. It features 7 engraved symbols on each side. They are mainly Norse but crosses are also featured. It is constructed in the traditional manner of the original and is made from antiqued brass.
The hardwood grip is wrapped in stitched red leather. It features a forged and tempered high carbon steel blade that is designed for hacking and slashing, such was the fighting style of the era. The leather bound wooden scabbard features antiqued brass fittings and a Borre styled suspension loop allowing it to be fastened to a belt of baldric.
