This civilian weapon was developed during the Baroque period. It gradually replaced the rapier from the middle of the 17th century since there was a growing need for lighter and less bulky weapons. This is due to the increased population growth and the associated lack of space during this period. The sword was mostly carried by members of the upper social class.
The sword has a blade made of EN45 spring steel with a triangular cross section, which is not sharpened. The guard and the curved handguard are made of brass, with a wooden handle, which is wrapped with brass wire.
The sword sheath is made of leather-wrapped wood, with fittings and support rings made of brass and a hook for attaching the sword sheath to a belt.
